The ultra rare and very endangered Dorking chicken. Our flock is a young flock which we are ever improving to improve the breed. We are VERY proud of our Dorking flock and absolutely adore them!
The Dorking is believed to be one of the oldest domesticated chickens dating back to Roman times. Dorking's are beautiful, calm, docile and friendly. What makes the Dorking special?
Dorking chickens have the following qualities which really sets them apart from other breeds:
They have a fifth toe,
A long body on short white/pinkish legs,
A white fleshed breed,
Considered one of the finest tasting table birds rivaling the Bresse in flavor,
Roughly 175 eggs a year, laying even during cold months,
Hearty, free range foragers, that stay close to home,
Excellent mothers and will go broody,
Excellent meat and good laying properties - A true dual purpose breed,
Chicks can be sexed at hatch visually
A true landrace breed*
Our Dorking flock is raised in lush green pastures with full access to grasses, bugs and all that nature has to offer. They are supplemented with excellent feed from a local feed mill. We offer hatching eggs, chicks and starter pairs, trios and small starter flocks.
